Supporters to Go For Gold

Friday, 1 June 2012

We might not all be lucky enough to be heading to the Olympic and Paralympic Games in London but there is no reason why the sporting fun can’t be brought north of the border. Cancer Support Scotland is encouraging people to live out their Olympic dream and hold their own golden event- while raising vital cash for our charity in the process.

It could be anything from a mini Olympics with friends, family and neighbours in the garden, a charity opening ceremony, an Ancient Greek inspired party or a gold medal winning BBQ to get everyone in the spirit.

Cancer Support Scotland provides practical and emotional support for people affected by cancer, including friends, family and carers. We offer free complementary therapies, one-to-one talking therapy and support groups. This summer we will be moving into a new centre which will allow us to treble our capacity, and directly help around 1,400 people each year. We will also be able to offer new services such as a Befriending service and a Hair, Nail and Foot salon.

You might already have an event planned and just need to buy the essentials. If you purchase your supplies online you can raise money for us- but at no extra cost to you. Visit ‘Give As You Live’ for more information: http://www.giveasyoulive.com/join/cancersupportscotland

Chief Executive Colin Graham said: “The majority of us will know or have known someone affected by cancer at some point in their lives. Every penny counts and helps us continue to provide support to those most in need of it. Who knows when this country will hold another Olympic and Paralympic event so now is the perfect time to celebrate this historic occasion- and help out a charity at the same time”.

We are currently working to raise the remaining £90,000 to allow us to kit out our new building, and have recently launched our-buy-a-brick campaign: http://www.cancersupportscotland.net/take-care-appeal/buy-a-brick/.
