Edinburgh Marathon Festival

Monday, 28 May 2012

Team 50 50Cancer Support Scotland would like to congratulate all our runners who took part in the Edinburgh Marathon Festival at the weekend. With temperatures hitting around 21 degrees in the Capital yesterday  the gruelling 26 mile course was made even harder, but all our full-marathon, half-marathon and team relay runners made it across the finish line, and raised vital funds for Cancer Support Scotland in the process.

Karen McGinlay from Glasgow ran 10K in the team relay. She said: “I didn’t expect us to be running along with the professional marathon runners, but it was good! We’ve had a few girls in our work that have used Cancer Support Scotland, and they received good support, so we thought this would be a way to raise money for them. It’s a worthwhile cause and this makes you feel worthwhile once you’ve done it”.

Based at Gartnavel Hospital Complex we provide practical and emotional support on a one-to-one basis for anyone affected by cancer, including family, friends and carers. All money raised will help us offer free of charge complementary therapies, talking therapies and support groups.

Chief Executive Colin Graham said: “It was a very hot day so to manage to run in that heat was exceptional. It was great to cheer on so many of our runners along the route and see the great lengths they went to enabling us to continue to provide vital support”.

There are still lots of opportunities for you to get your running gear on this summer and help raise money for Cancer Support Scotland. On 14th July we will be at the Big Fun Run 5K in Bellahouston Park- and we are urging men and women of all ages and fitness to take part. You can run, jog or walk the route.

Alternatively if you fancy stretching your legs that bit further we’re also looking for people to get involved in The Bank of Scotland Great Scottish Run in Glasgow on 2nd September. You might have already entered and are looking for a charity to support.
