Great Scottish Run

Tuesday, 4 September 2012

Cancer Support Scotland would like to congratulate all of our runners who took part in the Great Scottish Run at the weekend. The sun came out for the thousands of runners who took part in the 10k and half marathon, helping raise money for the charity.

This years Great Scottish Run had its highest number of entrants, with a total of 24,089 people running the 10k or half marathon. It was an inspirational day which raised over 1.5million for charities. One of our runners, Shona Smith ran the half-marathon. She said: “It was so much fun to take part in such a huge event as well as raising money for a worthy cause.  It was a great feeling running whilst my family and friends were cheering me on and was an even better feeling when I crossed the finish line!”

As a Glasgow based charity, Cancer Support Scotland provides practical and emotional support for those affected by cancer, including friends, family and carers. All money raised from the charity, will help improve our services including our complementary therapies, talking therapies and support groups.

Chief Executive of Cancer Support Scotland, Colin Graham, said: “It was a fantastic day that let us cheer on our runners that were taking part in the Great Scottish Run. These funds will go towards our new Calman Cancer Support Centre, which we will be moving into, in the next few months. We thank our runners once again for their support to the charity.”
