Local Charity Fundraising Night

A local charity fundraising night has raised thousands of pounds for Cancer Support Scotland. 

The Moran Breast Cancer Society Charity Night, held on Saturday 12 November at the Columba Club in Renfrew, raised a total of £4,500 for the charity based at the Gartnavel Hospital Complex in Glasgow.

Carol Moran, who started the Moran Breast Cancer Society with her husband Michael after being diagnosed with the cancer, is a user of Cancer Support Scotland’s services which include complementary therapies, talking therapy and support groups.

The charity provides this support free of charge for anyone affected by cancer – from those living with the disease to their friends and family as well.

As active supporters of the charity, Carol and Michael have been involved in many successful fundraising events over the years.

Carol said: “Cancer Support Scotland was a great support to me while I was undergoing treatment for breast cancer, and this is my way of giving something back.

“It’s so important that other people going through cancer have the same opportunity to get the support that I did.”

The cheque was handed over to Cancer Support Scotland Chief Executive Colin Graham at a well-attended event at the Columba Club in Renfrew on Friday evening.

He said: “The work that Michael and Carol do for the charity makes a real difference to the services that we are able to provide for those affected by cancer.

“This vital sum will go towards our Take Care Appeal, which needs to raise a further £306,000 to fund the purchase and fitting out of the new flagship Calman Cancer Support Centre due to open this summer.

“The move will allow us to double our current provision of services and offer an inviting and peaceful space for our clients and visitors to relax and spend time.

“We would like to thank Carol, Michael and all those who attended the night back in November for their fantastic generosity.”
