On 26th August the battle lines will be drawn when Edinburgh hosts the Spartan Sprint. In the grounds of Dalmeny House hundreds of adrenaline junkies will line up to take part in an obstacle course like no other. They will come up against a series of unknown challenges along the 5k route, and no doubt a lot of mud.
Cancer Support Scotland is calling on all warriors (male and female) out there to join our team and demonstrate their Spartan strength. You can run by yourself, as a team of 4 or as a group of 10. It will require quick decision making, stamina and all your strength- but it is safe to say you will have a lot of fun.
By joining team Cancer Support Scotland you will be helping us continue to support thousands of people through our vital services. Based at Gartnaval Hospital complex in Glasgow we provide practical and emotional support for people affected by cancer. We offer free complementary therapies, one-to-one talking therapy and support groups. We know cancer does not just affect the patient but those around them. Our services are therefore open to friends, family and carers too. This summer we move into a new centre which will allow us to treble our capacity and help around 1,400 people a year.
23-year-old Johnpaul McCabe is one of those preparing to do battle. He said: “We’ve put together a team of ten who’ll be taking on the challenges together. I’ve never taken part in anything like this before so I’m looking forward to finding out what the obstacles will be on the day. It’ll be tough but fun I’m sure, and if it means we can help those affected by cancer during their own battle it’ll all be worth it”.
All those joining Team Cancer Support Scotland will receive a free t-shirt, sponsorship forms and fundraising information.
Chief Executive Colin Graham said: “This is no ordinary charity run and one which will be sure to test the limits of participants. But I hope people will think about the thousands affected by cancer and draw their inspiration from that and join our team”.
