The Glasgow Rotary Club has handed over a cheque for £6,000 to Cancer Support Scotland as part of its centennial celebrations.
Glasgow Rotary donated the proceeds of a fundraising golf event to the cancer charity which is based at the Gartnavel Hospital Complex and provides complementary therapies, one-to-one talking therapy and support groups for people affected by cancer.
More than 120 members of the Glasgow Rotary Club took part in the amateur tournament at Pollok Golf Club on Wednesday 24 September last year, raising an impressive £12,000 to be split equally between Cancer Support Scotland and The Mungo Foundation.
President of the Glasgow Rotary Club, Donald MacDougall, said: “We are delighted to support Cancer Support Scotland in their work helping those affected by cancer.
“We have had a long association with the charity, and felt it was particularly fitting that our first centenary fundraising event of the year was in aid of Cancer Support Scotland.”
Chief Executive of Cancer Support Scotland, Colin Graham, said: “It is wonderful to have the support of such a distinguished organisation, particularly as they are celebrating their hundredth year anniversary.
“This generous donation will go towards our Take Care Appeal which must raise £420,000 over the coming months in order to purchase and fit out the new flagship Calman Cancer Support Centre, due to open this summer.
“The move will allow us to double our provision of complementary therapies and counselling, providing a great deal of support for people affected by cancer – from those living with the disease to their friends and family as well.
“We would like to thank the Glasgow Rotary Club for their wonderful support and hope we can work together again in future.”
