Shereen Nanjiani Visits Charity

Wednesday, 8 February 2012

Broadcast journalist Shereen NanjianiTradesmen working on the new Calman Cancer Support Centre were delighted this week when TV and radio personality Shereen Nanjiani paid them a surprise visit.

The broadcast journalist and supporter of Cancer Support Scotland was given a tour of the former church, situated on the grounds of Gartnavel Hospital, which will become the new flagship home of the charity.

Due for completion this summer, the B listed building is being renovated with the help of the Glasgow Building Preservation Trust.

The move will allow Cancer Support Scotland to double its provision of complementary therapies, one-to-one talking therapy and support groups for people affected by cancer – from the point of diagnosis, during treatment and beyond.

After having supported her mother through breast cancer, Shereen recognises the importance of providing emotional care for those living with the illness, as well as friends and family who are also affected.

She said: “I’m delighted to be involved with Cancer Support Scotland and in helping to spread the word about the fantastic services they provide.

“It’s great to see a building in this neighbourhood being regenerated into something so beneficial for the community, and indeed for anyone across Scotland who is being treated at the Beatson.

“It’s a bit of a hidden gem and I can’t wait to see the finished article.”

Cancer Support Scotland CEO Colin Graham said: “It’s wonderful to have the support of such an experienced broadcaster and journalist who understands the effect of cancer on people’s lives.

“We have absolutely no doubt that Shereen will help us to raise the profile of Cancer Support Scotland and we’re very much looking forward to working with her during this momentous time for the charity.”
