GUESTS WILL LAP UP WEDDING FROM HELL TO RAISE £50,000

real-life weddings from hell will be the theme for an attempt to raise £50,000.

An event based on matrimonial mayhem will be held in a Glasgow hotel, with about 500 people being treated as guests of a happy – or not so happy – couple.

The black-tie night will emulate disastrous Scottish nuptials, including a Shetland bride who arrived to find a coffin in the church, the Edinburgh reception that descended into a mass brawl, and the bride whose pristine dress was ruined by monkeys in Mexico.

Former BBC and STV newsreader Viv Lumsden is part of the organising committee of the benefit at the Hilton on Saturday, May 25, which will raise money for Cancer Support Scotland.

The centrepiece of The Wedding fundraiser will be a short comedy play, Top Table, by Rob Drummond about a wedding reception that goes disastrously wrong.

Committee member John Dalby, of Work Investments, said: "The audience are, in effect, guests at the wedding of Michelle and Craig and have a front row view as the drama unfolds."

Raffle prizes on the night will include tickets for a Robbie Williams gig, a visit to watch filming of the TV show Mrs Brown's Boys, trips to the British Grand Prix and a golfing holiday in Spain.

Cancer Support Scotland, formerly known as Tak Tent (Scots for 'take care'), was founded in 1980 by Sir Kenneth Calman.

It offers complementary therapies, counselling and support groups at its base at Gartnavel and in communities with Macmillan Cancer Support and Glasgow Life.

The charity's chief executive Colin Graham said: "It's fantastic a group of Glasgow business people has come together to do something so worthwhile."

Tickets, £75 each, are available by calling 0141 337 8199 or by sending an e-mail to: thewedding@cancersupport scotland.org
