Our second ever Battle of the Bands event was even bigger and better than the debut last year. 3 up and coming bands, ‘Take Today’, ‘Ports of Essen’ and ‘Horia’, rocked the Marriott Hotel on Thursday 23rd April.

Our 4 judges who included Ex British Lion and Sports Nation host, John Beattie, Co-founder and guitarist of Del Amitri, Bryan Tolland, actor and comedian of ‘Still Game’ fame, Sanjeev Kolhi and BBC weather presenter, Judith Ralston, were all on top form giving their sharp and witty comments to the bands. Our guests had the deciding vote though and after they had heard all 3 bands chose ‘Horia’ as the winners of the coveted title and prize, which included a day recording at Gorbals Sound studio.

The night also included an auction hosted by the hilarious football pundit, Peter Martin, who had us all laughing till our sides were sore with his banter with the bidders. The fun didn’t stop there though as our guests then danced the night away to the terrific ‘Them Beatles’ tribute act.

It was a fantastic night, enjoyed by all and raised £24,807 for Cancer Support Scotland in total. Thank you to everyone who was involved including the dedicated organising committee, chaired by John Dalby, and all our devoted volunteers who helped us ensure that the event ran smoothly on the night.
