What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is a form of natural, holistic therapy. It is based on the discovery that there is a relationship between areas of the feet and other parts of the body. There are points on the feet and hands which correspond to organs, systems and structures within the entire body. The relationship is called a reflex- when stimulation at one point brings about a response in another point or area.
What happens during Reflexology?
A consultation will take place to make sure there are no contraindications to your treatment. Reflexology works on the nerve endings in the feet and hands. The therapist uses the thumb and fingers to apply pressure to specific points on the feet or hands to release tension and promote a sense of well-being in the body. You remain fully clothed apart from your feet, and lie on a massage couch whilst the therapist works on your hands or feet and ankles.
What are the benefits of Reflexology?
Imbalances in tissues, organs and systems of the body can be both detected and treated to restore balance and well-being by attempting to help the person’s own healing energy resolve these imbalances. Reflexology is used to improve symptoms linked to cancer such as nausea, tension, pain and fatigue. Most people report that a reflexology therapy is wonderfully relaxing and soothing.
