What is Reiki?
Reiki is an energy-based therapy. It originated in Japan and means ‘universal life force’. It is based on the idea that everyone has or is surrounded by a special energy, and working on this can have health benefits.
What happens during a Reiki session?
During the treatment a client is (fully clothed), lying down or sitting up. Reiki may be experienced as a flow or energy, mild tingling, warmth, coolness, a feeling of relaxation or nothing at all. It is not unusual for a client to fall asleep during a Reiki session. The treatment can last for up to 45 minutes.
What are the benefits of a Reiki session?
Reiki is a deeply relaxing therapy and has a profoundly calming effect. Many people leave a Reiki session feeling refreshed, energised and with a sense of well-being. The effects of the therapy can last for days and even weeks after their session. People undergoing radiotherapy are unable to have a massage as it may make them feel unwell. Therefore Reiki is a great alternative and helps with energy levels and boosts the immune system. Cancer patients can receive Reiki treatment along with chemotherapy and radiation. Treatments may help ease some of the physical side effects of cancer treatment and the emotional effects that people may be dealing with.
