We are extremely grateful to Glasgow Building Preservation Trust for their support and dedication in creating our new home, The Calman Cancer Support Centre. The building has a rich history going back to 1904 and has gained international interest in it's restoration and future uses.
Built by Sir J.J. Burnet at the turn of the 20th century at the height of the Arts and Crafts Movement, the former Gartnavel Royal Hospital Chapel was designed to be a haven for people staying at the then City Lunatic Asylum. Burnet is one of the most successfull Scottish architects and here at Cancer Support Scotland, we are very excited that our new home is one of his creations.
The building also houses fabulous stained glass artwork by Robert Anning Bell, a nationally significant artist and craftsman.
The stained glass was refurbished by specialists as part of the renovation project.
A sympathetic and elegant extension was added to the building and now houses our therapy suites.
We are extremely grateful to Austin-Smith:Lord for all their hard work and exciting plans for our new home!
If you would like more information on the building please just let one of the Cancer Support Scotland team know.
