Internships
Here at Cancer Support Scotland, we believe in offering opportunities and experience to people who would like to learn. These are fixed term, non paid placements of three months full time. Internships demand a large time commitment and make a substantial contribution to our work. We do pay travel expenses.
Previous internships have been offered in Graphic Design, Fundraising and Media. These are a chance to develop specific skills through structured learning, coaching and regular review.

Press and PR Internship

This is an unpaid internship, which we anticipate to last 12 weeks, Monday - Friday, 9am til 5pm, with one day off a week to job search.
Details about the role
This is an exciting opportunity for a recent graduate or someone looking to move into the charity sector. The role is varied and will offer a high degree of job satisfaction for a skilled and enthusiastic communicator.
Duties
•Draft basic press releases
•Case study and story research
•Compiling media lists and distributing press releases
•‘Selling-in’ stories to media
•Constant update of our Social Media Websites
•Assist with internal promotion of press coverage
•Write Web Copy for our Website
Assist with the day-to-day running of the Communications Strategy, including:
•General administration; filing, data input and post
•Further project based tasks to be reviewed and agreed
Desirable skills and abilities
•Any relevant communications or PR experience would be beneficial but not essential
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills
•Ability to work as part of a team
•Ability to work using own initiative
•Great organisational skills
•Excellent IT skills
General
•To be an effective member of the team, presenting a positive impression of the team and the service
•To recognise, respect and promote the different roles and diversity of the individuals within the team
•To attend internal and external meetings as required
•To attend training as required

Flexibility:
In order to work effectively in a changing environment, flexibility is required from the post-holder. Any other tasks that may be requested will be at the same level of responsibility and terms and conditions of employment.
Management support
The Chief Executive will be responsible for managing and supporting the intern, although there may be requirement from them to work on their own at times and may also be accountable to other members of the Cancer Support Scotland Team at times. The volunteer will have the opportunity to have one-to-one meetings with the Chief Executive.
Times required
We ask that all interns are available to attend the office 9am-5pm, 4 days a week with an extra day dedicated to job searching. The internship is for 12 weeks, upaid.

Expenses
Cancer Support Scotland will refund all expenses incurred in travelling to and from your home to the Gartnavel Complex, Glasgow, G12 0YN.
