Progress on site
Calman Cancer Support Centre
On Thursday 15th October 2012, we moved with the help of 8 volunteers from Morgan Stanley to the new Calman Cancer Support Centre. The building was finally completed and had passed all its inspections. The rest of that week was like Christmas as office furniture donated by Claremont’s arrived, followed by seating from Flexiform and Craftshop along with rugs and cushions from Anta. Coffee tables have been delivered and donated by GalGael, with the sycamore wood having come from a fallen tree in Pollok park. A new reception desk has been delivered that complements the other furniture in the building. And finally 10 new donated laptops and a server has come from Seric Systems. We are eternally grateful to everyone who has helped us get to this point and without your support, cancer patients, their families and carers would not have a warm and friendly environment to come and relax in. It is a wee haven as a cancer patient told me last week.
We held our first event on Monday 29th October where we invited all the neighbours to see around the building. Over 30 people turned up to hear about the history of the building and the new services we will be delivering. On Friday 2nd November, Professor Sir Kenneth Calman will officially open the building. Over 200 people have accepted our invitation to attend and view the building. If you would like to see the building, please get in touch.
We desperately need more volunteers to help with sweeping of leaves, planting plants and people interested in telling others the history of the building and the services we provide. If you are interest in learning more, please get in touch.
